Project Summary

Budget

Up to40.27billion yen

CO2 Reduction Effect (World)

In 2030: Approximately1.6billion tons-CO2/year
In 2050: Approximately8.0billion tons-CO2/year

Economic Effect (World)

In 2030: Approximately6trillion yen/year
In 2050: Approximately10trillion yen/year

Research and Development Targets

In 2030: Realize CO2 separation/capture cost of 2,000 yen level (less than 3,000 yen) per ton-CO2 for low-pressure, low-concentration gas (atmospheric pressure, CO2 concentrations no higher than 10%).

Assumptions regarding estimates of CO2 reduction effect and economic effect

CO2 Reduction Effect

  • In 2030 estimate calculated using IEA’s beyond 2℃ scenario (B2DS) which predicts captured/stored CO2 will total approximately 1.6 billion tons.
  • In 2050 estimate calculated using B2DS which predicts captured/stored CO2 will total approximately 8 billion tons.

Economic Effect

  • In 2050 estimate calculated using target/projected separation/capture cost of approximately 1,200 yen/ton-CO2× approximately 8 billion tons of CO2 (estimate of separation/capture amount used for B2DS in IEA Energy Technology Perspectives 2017).
